Location: Musselburgh, Scotland

Contract Type: Locum ongoing contract

Pay Rate: £30 – £35 per hour (assignment rate)

Duties of the Occupational Therapist:

  • To provide a responsive and needs led Occupational Therapy service, ensuring appropriate services are provided to meet clients’ needs in accordance with the Council’s statutory obligations and department policies and procedures.
  • Carry a caseload of varying degrees of complexity and maintain case records.
  • Work with service users and carers to undertake holistic needs led assessment.
  • Apply specialist Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills and work with service users and carers to identify, implement and evaluate individualised strategies and solutions which will assist them in performing their activities of daily living to their maximum level of independence, which promote safety and access and which minimise identified risks.
  • Act as a consultant and undertake joint work with colleagues of different disciplines on areas of specialist Occupational Therapy expertise
  • Support individuals, families and their carers with the impact of altered functional ability related to age, physical and learning disability or illness.
  • Draw up, monitor and review care plans, record unmet need and care manage cases.
  • Negotiate with service providers and cost packages of care.
  • Participate, where necessary, in the Duty and Response System wherever necessary, respond effectively to calls/visits and make initial assessments.
  • Provide advice about Social Work and related services.
  • Provide reports as required to an acceptable standard.
  • Undertake regular planned supervision with line manager.
  • Promote service user involvement and advocate for individuals as appropriate.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement using management information and customer feedback.
  • Promote a positive image of community care services by providing excellent Customer Care.

Requirements of the Occupational Therapist:

  • Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • Recent UK experience working as an Occupational Therapist
  • Recent NHS experience
  • Registered with the HCPC
  • Experience of working with at least one Community Care client group
  • Experience of liaising with other agencies
  • Knowledge of client groups covered by Community Care legislation
  • Knowledge of OT practice and understanding of effects of illness and disability
  • Sound assessment skills to underpin needs led assessment
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with clients, carers, colleagues and service providers
  • Ability to identify and assess risk
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective organisational and time management skills
  • A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post
