Global Healthcare Jobs, a dedicated and award-winning recruitment agency looking for an experienced and dedicated Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) to work in London on a full-time basis.
The salary for this permanent Specialist Speech & Language Therapist job is £40,000 – £45,000 per annum.
Duties:
- Assess, treat, and manage their own caseload developing specialist speech and language therapy skills in neurosciences
- Cover our Neurosciences and acute services, including the neurosurgical ward and ICU, together with a small caseload of patients from our Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute and Digestive Diseases Surgical Institute
- Provide additional cover to the neuro-rehabilitation ward on an ad hoc basis as demand requires
- Provide highly effective, innovative, and evidenced based therapy provision. It will also offer some clinical support to other specialties
- Complete weekend service provision (Saturday service only), developing specialist skills along the way
- Supported supervision of Therapy Assistants and have supportive individualised supervision and performance development with senior Speech and Language Therapists
Requirements of the Specialist Speech & Language Therapist:
- Be able to identify risk within clinical setting including potential safety issues around care and discharge and communicate this effectively with support as appropriate
- Ability to use empathy, tact and sensitivity when dealing with distressing or emotional situations
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent
- Post-graduation experience and education in speech and language therapy, including basic dysphagia competence, the benefits of FEES and VFS in the assessment of speech and language therapy and a basic understanding of tracheostomy care
- Evidence of training / experience in supervision of assistants/students
- Evidence of continuous professional / academic development relevant to clinical field
- Evidence of training / experience in basic research skills (critical appraisal, literature reviews)
- Current registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy (RCSLT) (Desirable)
- Membership of Clinical Excellence Network (CEN) (Desirable)
- Experience as a qualified speech and language therapist in an acute hospital setting
- Experience of setting SMART goals both within and across disciplines
- Experience of participation and presenting of in-service training
- Previous specialist speech and language therapy experience in relevant post desirable
- Experience of discharge planning, referral provision and use of outcome measures
- Experience of supervision of other therapists, students, and therapy assistants
- Completed RCSLT Dysphagia Competency Framework (Specialist level dysphagia practitioner) or recognised equivalent
