Global Healthcare Jobs, a dedicated and award-winning recruitment agency is looking for an experienced and dedicated Prison Cleared Registered Nurse (RGN) to take on an exciting position based in HMP Lindholme, Hatfield, Doncaster.
Pay Rate: £32.50 – £35 per hour (assignment rate)
Contract: Locum & Ongoing Contract
Hours: Full-time

Main Duties:
- Health Assessments: Conduct initial health assessments for new inmates, evaluating their medical history, current health status, and immediate healthcare needs.
- Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications to inmates, ensuring accurate dosages, proper administration techniques, and adherence to medication schedules.
- Chronic Disease Management: Provide ongoing care and support to inmates with chronic medical conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and others.
- Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies within the prison facility, providing immediate medical care and coordinating with other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Wound Care: Perform wound assessments, clean and dress wounds, and monitor healing progress while maintaining infection control protocols.
- Health Education: Conduct health education sessions for inmates on topics such as hygiene, disease prevention, medication management, and overall well-being.
- Mental Health Support: Collaborate with the mental health team to identify inmates with mental health concerns and provide appropriate care and referrals.
- Infection Control: Implement and maintain infection control measures within the healthcare unit to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
- Referrals and Follow-Up: Make referrals for specialized care, diagnostic tests, or consultations outside the prison as needed. Ensure follow-up appointments are scheduled and attended.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, correctional staff, and external medical providers to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for inmates.
- Health Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each inmate, documenting assessments, treatments, medications, and changes in health status.
- Medication Management: Manage the medication inventory, monitor storage conditions, and reorder supplies to ensure a continuous supply of necessary medications.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare incident reports, health assessments, and other necessary documentation related to medical care provided to inmates. Report to authorities as required.
- Health Promotion: Develop and implement health promotion initiatives tailored to the inmate population, encouraging healthy lifestyle choices.
- Crisis Intervention: Participate in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when dealing with agitated or distressed inmates.
- Quality Improvement: Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the prison healthcare system, aiming to enhance the overall quality of care provided.
- Continuing Education: Stay updated with current medical practices, correctional healthcare guidelines, and attend relevant training sessions to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Requirements of the Prison Nurse:
- Must be registered on the NMC and must have a relevant qualification in nursing
- Prison clearance and experience is essential
