Global Healthcare Jobs, a dedicated and award-winning recruitment agency looking for an experienced and dedicated Band 5/6/7 Occupational Therapist to take on a new locum role.

Location: Cambridge and or Peterborough

Contract Type: Locum ongoing contract

Pay Rate: £24 – £35 per hour (assignment rate)

Duties of the Occupational Therapist:

  • To assess, plan and develop specialist occupational therapy programmes for patients under care of the Early Supported Discharge Team. This will involve working in a range of ward and community settings. This will include lone working within the community with access to Advanced Practitioners and MDT when required.
  • To provide a high standard of occupational therapy.
  • To perform advanced occupational therapy assessment of stroke patients and to deliver an individual treatment programme.
  • To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working unsupervised.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within the multi-professional team.
  • To be accountable for assessing, interpreting, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment to patients within professional guidelines, with the support of Advanced Practitioners / MDT.
  • To identify patient needs, agree goals and provide appropriate therapy interventions relating to their physical, functional and psychological needs.
  • Provide appropriate equipment and rehabilitation programmes, and make referrals on to other professionals and agencies as appropriate in order to meet the identified needs.
  • To keep the patient at the centre of care, ensuring patient and carer participation in decision making.
  • To allocate work to non-registered staff.
  • Provide support and education to peers, new staff, non-registered staff and students.
  • To build up and maintain key relationships with referring services and an understanding of the roles within the Integrated Early Supported Discharge and Community Neuro teams.
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.
  • To comply with the Professional Codes of Conduct and to be aware of changes in these. To maintain up to date knowledge of all relevant legislation and local policies and procedures implementing this.
  • To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest standard and in accordance with currently quality initiatives within the work area.

Requirements of the Occupational Therapist:

  • Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • Recent UK experience working as an Occupational Therapist
  • Recent NHS experience
  • Registered with the HCPC
