Contract Type: Locum Ongoing contract
Pay Rate: £25 – £30 per hour (assignment rate)

Main Duties:
- To assess, prescribe and provide a range of manual and powered wheelchairs, specialist seating, cushions and accessories. and suggest modifications to equipment to suit individual need.
- To provide a high standard of clinical work as part of the service to patients with a variety of long and short term conditions.
- To prescribe manual or powered wheelchairs, specialist modifications, postural supports and/or other associated equipment within the budgetary constraints issued by the Wheelchair and Special Seating Services as appropriate.
- To provide a specialist response in complex and highly complex cases as an autonomous practitioner, evidencing high-level problem solving and reasoning skills and independence of judgement.
- To provide a high standard of clinical work as part of the service to patients with a variety of long and short term conditions.
- To prescribe manual or powered wheelchairs, specialist modifications, postural supports and/or other associated equipment within the budgetary constraints issued by the Wheelchair and Special Seating Services as appropriate.
- Provide a specialist response in complex and highly complex cases as an autonomous practitioner, evidencing high-level problem solving and reasoning skills and independence of judgement.
- To deliver clinical work within a variety of settings e.g. clinic, specialist schools, ward based, patient’s home, community settings and abide by rules and regulations pertinent to those settings.
- To run and be responsible for Specialist Seating Clinics with the assistance of the contracted orthotics company employee and senior wheelchair services technician.
- To use effective professional interpersonal skills when discussing interventions with patients and carers with different levels of comprehension. Service Manager Clinical Lead Senior therapist.
- To give advice to wheelchair users, carers, professionals and seek information from manufacturers, in order to meet an individual client need. To assess the client’s home situation in relation to access and use of wheelchairs, and to liaise directly with the Community Occupational Therapists at Social Services in this regard: to send written referrals asking for appropriate adaptations to property where this is required or is possible.
- To provide training to clients and carers in the use of different types of wheelchair, particularly where this requires integration with an activity/activities of daily living.
- To provide a Specialist Pressure Mapping Service and make the results available to other professionals. To keep accurate clinical records, type reports and letters, and update and view the patient information on databases. To source and complete manufacturers’ prescription forms to meet the clients’ needs using the appropriate website. To abide by Trust and departmental policies and protocols.
Requirements of the Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist:
- Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy
- Recent UK experience working as an Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist
- Recent NHS experience
- Registered with the HCPC
