Global Healthcare Jobs, a dedicated and award-winning recruitment agency is looking for a Prison Cleared/Experienced Pharmacy Technician to work full-time based at HMP Lindholme, Hatfield, Doncaster.

Rates (Assignment rate): £27 – £30.50 Per hour

Contract: Locum ongoing contract

Main Duties:

  • Medication Dispensing: Prepare and dispense medications accurately and safely to inmates based on prescriptions from the prison healthcare team.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain a well-organized inventory of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, ensuring appropriate stock levels and storage conditions within the prison pharmacy.
  • Medication Labeling: Ensure proper labeling of medication containers with accurate dosage instructions, inmate information, and any relevant warnings.
  • Prescription Processing: Receive, verify, and process medication orders from healthcare professionals, confirming accuracy, dosage, and patient details before preparing medications.
  • Compounding: Assist in compounding and preparing specialized medications as required, following established protocols and maintaining sterile conditions as needed.
  • Medication Reconciliation: Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure accurate medication records and proper reconciliation during inmate transfers or medical appointments.
  • Medication Distribution: Coordinate the distribution of medications to various sections of the prison, such as the healthcare unit, infirmary, and housing units, adhering to security protocols.
  • Patient Education: Provide clear instructions to inmates on how to take their medications, potential side effects, and any precautions they should be aware of.
  • Pharmacy Records: Maintain precise electronic records of medication dispensing, documenting inmate information, prescribed medications, and quantities provided.
  • Medication Reviews: Assist in reviewing inmates’ medication profiles, identifying potential drug interactions, allergies, or discrepancies in treatment plans.
  • Medication Returns and Disposal: Manage the return and disposal of expired or unused medications in compliance with proper disposal guidelines and documentation.
  • Emergency Supplies: Ensure that emergency medical supplies and medications are readily available in case of medical crises within the prison facility.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, pharmacists, nurses, and correctional staff regarding medication-related matters and inmate health status.
  • Medication Security: Adhere strictly to security protocols to prevent theft or misuse of medications, ensuring the safety of inmates and staff.

Requirements of the Prison/HMP Pharmacy Technician:

  • Must be registered on the GPHC/must have a relevant qualification in pharmacy
  • Prison clearance and experience is essential
