Location: HMP Lowdham Grange, Nottinghamshire

Shift Pattern: Full-time

Type of Contract: Locum, ongoing contract

Hourly Rate: £34 – £45 per hour (assignment rate)

  • Weekdays £34ph
  • Night/ Saturdays £39.50
  • Sunday/ BH £45ph

Main Duties:

  • Inmate Care: Provide basic healthcare assistance and support to inmates under the supervision of registered nurses or healthcare professionals.
  • Personal Care: Assist inmates with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Vital Signs Monitoring: Regularly measure and record vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiratory rate for inmates.
  • Medication Support: Assist with medication administration under the guidance and supervision of registered nurses, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  • Health Assessments: Help with initial health assessments by collecting basic health information, recording inmates’ medical history, and communicating observations to the healthcare team.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies within the prison facility, providing basic first aid and assistance as needed.
  • Health Promotion: Educate inmates on basic health and hygiene practices, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Mobility Assistance: Support inmates with mobility issues by providing assistance with walking, transferring, and positioning.
  • Assist with Procedures: Assist healthcare professionals in carrying out basic medical procedures such as wound dressing changes, specimen collection, and basic lab tests.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of care provided, vital signs, and other relevant information in inmates’ medical records.
  • Safety Measures: Ensure the safety and security of both inmates and healthcare staff by adhering to facility safety protocols.
  • Patient Transport: Assist in transporting inmates to and from medical appointments, diagnostic tests, and other healthcare facilities within the prison.
  • Bedside Support: Provide companionship and emotional support to inmates during their healthcare interactions, especially in cases of distress or discomfort.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that medical equipment is clean, properly stored, and ready for use when needed.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate observations and relevant information about inmates’ conditions to the healthcare team.

Requirements of the Prison RMN/Nurse:

  • Relevant nursing qualification and an active NMC Registration (Mental Health)
  • Must have Prison Clearance and experience working within a prison
